Why You Should Consider a Detox

Written on August 20, 2008

The idea of detoxing your body has only recently started to become popular in the western world. There are many people out there that are considering detoxifying their bodies, but they do not have enough information on what the process involves. If this sounds like the predicament you are in, then this article is for you.

The purpose of a body detox is to flush out toxins from our bodies. There are toxins all around us, in the air, water, and the food that we eat (particularly fast and processed foods). These toxins enter our bodies, but are usually flushed out by our liver and kidneys. However sometimes our organs can not cope with the amount of toxins that we are bringing into our bodies and this can cause health problems. These include skin irritation, weight gain, fatigue, memory loss and many others.

A detox will rid your body of these toxins, and the body will be more effective at detoxifying itself, because it will reverse the effect that the build up of toxins have had on it. Once the detox is complete you will reap many benefits. These include, as sense of well being, improved health all round, feeling full of energy, restful sleep, stronger immune system amongst several others. Toxins in the body are believed to be a factor in the development of certain forms of cancer, so undergoing a detox can actually reduce your chances of developing this condition.

Not everyone in the medical world is convinced that detoxification actually helps your body, but there are many people who claim to have benefited from the detoxification process. The only way to be sure is to try a detox yourself. There are many different methods that you can use to detoxify your body, and the one you choose depends on what your goal is. For example the method you would use to detoxify your skin is different from method you would use to detoxify your colon.
